Joyce Torres an engagement director who leads a small team in Derby WA for the National Indigenous Australians Agency and has strong connections with Yaruwu, Nykina and Jibirr Jabbir language groups of the Kimberley. She has a strong focus on community-driven initiatives and enjoys being able to influence policies from the ground up. Throughout Joyce’s career in the public service , she has been working in some of the most remote locations in the Northern Territory and Western Australia and bringing her experience working in isolation and remoteness and managing her own career as well as the team she leads. With over 20 years’ experience in the public service within the Commonwealth Indigenous Affairs portfolio, and through her work, she contributes to creating positive change to ensure that Indigenous people and their communities aim towards self-determination, and that they are heard and empowered. Joyce enjoys leading people in delivering strategic priorities and has a passion for driving organisational growth. She considers herself a lifelong educator building cultural competency and capability into her teams, so they are well-equipped when working with Indigenous people and their communities.
