Valedictory: Glyn Davis AC, Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet
At the heart of national decision-making lies the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet – the engine room of government. Leading this department is the Secretary, the Prime Minister’s most senior public service advisor, entrusted with guiding the nation through its most complex policy challenges.
This July, the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA) ACT is honoured to host a Valedictory Address by Emeritus Professor Glyn Davis AC, outgoing Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Appointed Secretary in June 2022, Professor Davis has brought to the role a distinguished career in public policy, higher education, and philanthropy. Before this, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Paul Ramsay Foundation and as Vice-Chancellor of both the University of Melbourne and Griffith University.
A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, Professor Davis has held visiting academic appointments at institutions including the University of Oxford, King’s College London, the University of Manchester, and the University of Melbourne.
His community contributions include long-standing partnerships with Indigenous programs in the Goulburn–Murray Valley and Cape York, and leadership roles on arts boards such as Opera Australia, the Queensland Theatre Company, and the Melbourne Theatre Company.
