This year’s Frances Adamson Oration will be delivered by Dr Wendy Craik AM FTSE, scientist, public policy adviser, and company director.

This event is for established and emerging leaders in the public sector who want to deepen their understanding of institutional and individual integrity, resilience, and challenges in the service.

Hear Dr Craik speak about:

  • trust and the importance of impartiality
  • why evidence-based advice is sometimes not welcome
  • rising distrust and cynicism around science and expertise
  • why we need technical experts
  • challenges around managing major environmental issues and how science can help address them
  • insights into sustainable fishery in Australia
  • Great Barrier Reef Water Quality Consensus Statement
  • lessons about budgeting from working in the NFP sector
  • consulting for the public service: the good and the bad.

The keynote will be followed by an audience Q&A led by Andrew Metcalfe AO, IPAA National president, then an opportunity to network over drinks and canapés.

The Frances Adamson Oration was established in honour of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia. The annual oration was established in 2022 to coincide with United Nations Public Service Day, celebrating the value and virtue of public service to the community.
