If you manage people in the public sector, you are likely already leading neurodivergent staff. The question is whether your team environment is helping them do their best work.

As more public sector employees identify as neurodivergent, managers play an important role in shaping whether workplaces are accessible, supportive and high performing. While many agencies are strengthening workforce strategies, recruitment pathways and support programs, the day-to-day experience of neurodivergent staff is often shaped most directly by their manager. How expectations are communicated, how meetings are run, how adjustments are discussed and how different thinking styles are valued can all influence whether people feel supported to contribute fully.

Join IPAA ACT for a practical discussion exploring what it means to be a neuroaffirming manager in the public sector. The conversation will feature Claire Thomas, CEO of Empact Group, and Jessica Hall, deputy secretary for the Regional Development & Infrastructure Group within the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts, in conversation with Kate Driver, CEO of IPAA ACT.

Together, they will explore the everyday skills, behaviours and workplace conditions that help managers build neuroinclusive teams and move towards accessibility by default.

Who is this for?

  • Mid to senior managers who manage neurodivergent staff
  • Managers who want to build workplaces that are accessible by default
  • Neurodivergent staff who would like to contribute to the conversation and reflect on their own workplace experiences.

Why attend?

This webinar will help managers reflect on their own leadership practice and consider practical changes they can make to better support neurodivergent staff.

You will explore how to:

  • communicate expectations clearly and consistently
  • redesign meetings to support different ways of thinking and working
  • normalise workplace adjustments
  • value different thinking styles within your team
  • build more accessible and supportive team environments
  • support neurodivergent staff through recruitment, onboarding and team culture.

If you work for the federal or ACT public service, or in the broader public – for – purpose sector, you’re most likely already a member of IPAA ACT. Check out our membership list if you’re not sure.
