WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
This practical one-day workshop provides foundational knowledge and tools to manage contracts from planning through to performance monitoring and contract closure. You’ll explore legal principles, contract structures, and real-world contract management challenges relevant to public sector environments. Through group activities, case studies, and applied exercises, you’ll gain practical experience using tools and techniques for successful contract management.

This course is delivered over two half days using Microsoft Teams.

BY THE END OF THE COURSE, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Understand the role and importance of contracting in the Commonwealth and ACT public sectors, including the legislative and policy context (e.g. PGPA Act, Commonwealth Procurement Rules, or ACT Procurement
    Framework).
  • Plan an effective contract management approach that supports accountability, performance, and value for money.
  • Understand the legal fundamentals underpinning public sector contracts, including obligations, rights, and remedies.
  • Identify and interpret key terms and conditions, including performance measures, payment schedules, and dispute clauses.
  • Administer contract variations, extensions, and terminations in accordance with legal and policy requirements.
  • Monitor contract delivery and manage supplier performance using practical tools and frameworks.
  • Recognise and manage common risks, including underperformance, scope creep, and compliance breaches.
  • Understand how to document decisions and maintain audit-ready contract records.
