John is a proud Bundjalung man who is dedicated to advancing First Nations priorities and is strongly focused on fostering connection and improving workplace culture. He is currently an SES Band 2 officer at the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), where he leads the People, Parliamentary and Communications, Business Operations, and Transformation functions.
John is the Chair of the APS COO Collaboration Circle, a collective that brings together First Nations and other senior APS leaders to embed First Nations perspectives in public‑sector governance and to address systemic barriers to First Nations employment. He also serves as a co‑opted member of the whole‑of‑government Chief Operating Officer Committee, contributing First Nations perspectives to APS‑wide operational and workforce reform.
John’s qualifications include a Masters of Military Studies and Defence and a Bachelor of Management. He is recognised for initiatives that strengthen mental health, wellbeing, and inclusion across government. John is passionate about excellence in public administration, inclusive decision‑making, and genuine partnership. He brings strategic insight, cultural capability, and collaborative leadership to strengthening the future of the profession.
