The Honourable Jay Weatherill AO is the Executive Director of Democracy with the Susan McKinnon Foundation and, together with The Honourable Mike Baird AO, seeks to strengthen Australia’s democracy.
Jay was Premier of South Australia for over six years and a Minister for 16 years, holding portfolios including early childhood. He holds law and economics degrees from the University of Adelaide. He is an industry professor at the University of South Australia and an ambassador for Reggio Children.
He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2021 Australia Day Honours list for his work in early childhood development. Jay is also a graduate of the Company Directors Course.
He is a board member of Infrastructure WA and Keystart WA, both statutory authorities of the Government of Western Australia. In March 2024, Jay was appointed a director at Medibank, where he is a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committees.
He is a member of the National Gallery of Australia Council and chairs the not-for-profit sail training organization, the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation. He is also a director of Nicola Forrest’s philanthropic organization, the Coaxial Foundation.
Most recently, he led the Thrive by Five campaign for early years reform with the Minderoo Foundation.
