Michael Manthorpe PSM FIPAA
Executive coach and consultant in public administration
Michael Manthorpe is an executive coach and consultant in public administration. He serves on various governance committees, undertakes reviews of complex problems and otherwise helps out where possible.
Until 2021, he served in the APS for 37 years, starting his career as a base grade clerk and finishing up as the Commonwealth Ombudsman. Along the way he served in the portfolios of education, employment, workplace relations and what is now Home Affairs, 8 years as a Deputy Secretary.
Along the way, he worked on an array of complex, challenging, contested issues for multiple governments, ministers, Secretaries.
He received a public service medal in 2010 for leading the then Government’s response to the collapse of ABC Learning Centres, then the largest childcare provider in Australia.
He is also a friend of IPAA, where he was Deputy President, Board Member and Councillor for 6 years, and was acknowledged with a FIPAA upon his retirement.
