Kieran Butler is assistant director-general – legal and policy, a position he has held since January 2021. Prior to this role, Mr Butler held various positions in the Attorney-General’s Department, including as the chief of staff to the secretary, and legal counsellor, Bangkok, as well as leading teams working on national security policy, counter-terrorism legislation and anti- corruption. Prior to joining the Attorney-General’s Department Mr Butler worked in a variety of roles in the Department of Defence. Mr Butler was admitted as a solicitor in the NSW Supreme Court in 2003 and holds a master of laws.
