On 5 March, we celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 and our Helen Williams Oration with a powerful trio of women: Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, the 28th Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Michelle Steele, Chief First Nations Officer at the Paul Ramsay Foundation, and event host Genevieve Jacobs AM, CEO of Hands Across Canberra.

Dr James Johnson, retiring CEO of Geoscience Australia shared his journey from avoiding maths and chemistry by taking his first university geology class, becoming enthralled in earth sciences and working in the mining and mineral exploration industries, to eventually leading Australia’s pre-eminent public sector Geoscience organisation.

Express Summit: AI in the public sector

Our Express Summit: AI in the public sector uncovered the transformative potential of AI within the public service. The day was packed with masterclasses and a panel discussion. The Hon Patrick Gorman MP, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Assistant Minister for the Public Service closed the event with a keynote, reflecting on innovative approaches to AI use and his vision of the future of artificial intelligence in the public sector.
