Fundamentals of recruiting in the public sector
Build confidence in fair, inclusive and defensible public sector recruitment decisions
Effective recruitment begins well before an interview. Unclear role requirements, poorly designed questions and inconsistent assessment methods can weaken the process and make it harder to select the right person. This course gives managers, panel members and HR practitioners a practical foundation in public sector recruitment. You will learn to identify required capabilities, develop behavioural questions, conduct structured interviews, assess candidates consistently and manage unconscious bias. These skills support recruitment decisions that are fair, inclusive, evidence-based and aligned with workforce needs.
Key learnings
- Build skills to conduct job analysis, assess candidates, and implement fair, effective recruitment practices.
- Gain confidence in interviewing, evaluating candidates, managing bias, and providing constructive feedback.
- Utilise guidelines, legislation, and structured tools to enhance recruitment strategies and support workforce capability needs.
