In the dynamic environment of the Australian Public Service, effective Human Resources (HR) management is pivotal to organisational success. Managing risk is an inherent part of every HR professional’s role. 

This session is designed to equip APS HR professionals with a foundational understanding of risk management, enabling more informed decision-making and contributing to positive outcomes for both the organisation and its people. 

Is this course right for you?

This course is designed for APS 5 – EL2 Human Resources Professionals (generalists and specialists in areas such as recruitment, Policy, Workplace Relations, WHS, Capability Development, etc.) who seek to enhance their fundamental understanding of risk management in an HR context. 

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to: 

• understand the definition of risk specifically within the context of Human Resources in the APS (e.g., risks related to workforce planning, employee relations, policy implementation, or data privacy) 
• Know when to consider risk in your day-to-day HR decision-making and strategic planning processes (e.g. during policy development, significant organisational change, or individual case management) 
• effectively describe a HR risk to ensure you’ve clearly identified the potential causes, events, and consequences, facilitating appropriate mitigation strategies. 

Delivery

This course is delivered over one 3-hour session using Microsoft Teams.
