Shaping Positive Mental Health in Your Workplace
On Wednesday 28 September 2021 IPAA hosted a virtual event with a panel of senior leaders who shared their experiences in shaping positive mental health outcomes in their organisations.
Dr Gordon de Brouwer PSM, IPAA National President, hosted and introduced the event and panellists, who included:
- Lucinda Brogden AM, Chair of the National Mental Health Commission and Chair of the Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance
- Steven Worrall, Managing Director at Microsoft Australia & New Zealand and Chair of the Corporate Mental Health Alliance Australia
- Cheryl-anne Moy, Deputy Secretary at the Department of Home Affairs
- Alistair Carmichael, Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company
The panel discussion was facilitated by Kimberley Swords, Government Expert at McKinsey & Company.
The panellists considered the impact COVID-19 has had on mental health in the workplace, and how it has exacerbated pre-existing workplace mental health issues. They discussed the nature of challenges presented by the pandemic, and why this creates an imperative for leaders to take considered action to sustainably improve workplace mental health. Finally, they shed light on what senior leaders have learnt from their efforts to address these problems, and what they can do to improve the health of their teams in the future.
