On Monday 17 May, IPAA ACT hosted Public Policy Lessons from the Global Financial Crisis. Held at the National Portrait Gallery, Parkes, the event featured observations on the global financial crisis (GFC) from a panel of economic experts, and parallels for policymakers confronting today’s economic challenges.

The discussion centred around papers authored by panellists Dr Ken Henry AC, former Secretary of The Treasury, reflecting on lessons for fiscal policymakers; Dr Malcolm Edey, former Assistant Governor (Economic) of the Reserve Bank of Australia, reflecting on lessons for central bankers; and David Tune AO PSM, former Associate Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and former Secretary of the Department of Finance, reflecting on lessons for leaders’ departments, co-authored by Megan Edwards.

Meghan Quinn PSM, Deputy Secretary of the Markets Group at The Treasury also joined the panel discussion, bringing her valuable current experience working through the pandemic alongside Dr Steven Kennedy PSM, Secretary of The Treasury, who chaired the event. Dr David Gruen, Australian Statistician, provided an opening summary on the work.
