Strategic thinking in a crisis

It’s fair to say that the last 18 months has delivered an unprecedented number of crises that have profoundly affected all Australians in one way or another. Floods, fire, mice plagues and the COVID-19 pandemic have accumulatively impacted us all.

In this episode Dr Gordon de Brouwer PSM, President of IPAA National, and Rachel O’Connor, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, talk about how public servants can draw from their own reserves, skills and experiences to connect with, and develop trust with Australian citizens during difficult times. Discussed in this episode:

  • The elements of strategic thinking.
  • Building personal resilience during and after a crisis.
  • Gaining the public’s trust during critical times.
  • Thinking strategically when under pressure.
  • Transferring the skills we develop during a crisis to everyday life.
