In February 2012 the Office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security celebrates 25 years of holding Australia's spooks to account. The Inspector-General provides independent assurance to Ministers, Parliament and the Australian public that intelligence and security agencies act with legality, propriety and in accordance with human rights.

At our first regular Tuesday monthly event of 2012, join three diverse speakers as they delve into the secret world of national security:

  • Mr David Irvine, Director-General of Security (Head of ASIO)
  • Dr Rufus Black, ethicist, management consultant and theologian who jointly conducted the 2011 Independent review of the Australian intelligence community.

Evaluation in today's Australian Public Sector is a vital element in demonstrating and managing performance and supporting decision making at all levels in organisations and programs. Recent developments such as the public sector's focus on evidence-based policy; sound program management and implementation; and need for improved data collection, analysis and reporting on performance; requires public sector managers to understand and use evaluation as one of the key tools in meeting these imperatives.

As part of IPAA ACT's commitment to the Young Professionals, chief executives are invited to sponsor a table and invite young members of their organisation to a breakfast meeting. The keynote speaker is Jessica Watson, the 2011 Young Australian of the year who sailed around the world unassisted non-stop at the age of 16. we hope Jessica's story and message will show that success can be achieved with good teamwork and a confident and determined approach to achieving her goals despite hardships.
